Things People Without Kids and Short Commutes To Work Miss Out On

We have a 45 minute or so commute to work/school on a regular basis. Sometimes it is longer, sometimes it is shorter. Just depends on traffic, donuts, potty breaks, etc.

Earlier this week we were travelling to work/school, having just stopped at McDonald's for a morning treat of breakfast burritos (The Monkey) and yogurt (The Troll.)

Again, Mrs. Frugality orders a breakfast burrito meal, complete with 2 breakfast burritos, a hash brown, and a small orange juice, which the boys could share. The Monkey honked and refused any part of the hashbrown. Fine. The Troll will eat it.

Peace and quiet fell upon the backseat. It was nice, but a little unnerving. (In my mind, ahhhh is quickly replaced with questions of what they are destroying.) A quick peek in the rearview mirror replaces my anxiety with ease. They are happily munching on their breakfast treats.

It was not long before I hear a small conversation in the backseat. It went something like this:

Monkey: Brother? Can I have some of your hashbrown?
Troll: Ummm, yeah.
Monkey: What does it taste like?
Troll: Ummm, ummm, ummm, chicken!
Monkey: Oh, Ok.

What doesn't taste like chicken?? I almost had to pull over I was laughing so hard. At 2 years old, he has caught on that everything tastes like chicken.

It is moments like this that makes me happy we have 2 of them that are 2 years, 2 weeks and 2 days apart. That feeling is often followed by the sickening feeling that the two of them will quickly be able to outwit, outplay, and outlast us. Yes. My life is no longer my own. It is now an episode of Survivor.
